米AbbVie社は2016年7月11日、上皮成長因子受容体（EGFR）を標的とする抗体薬物複合体（ADC）ABT-414が、小児のEGFR増幅びまん性橋膠腫（DIPG）を対象として米食品医薬品局（FDA）により希少疾病用医薬品に指定されたと発表した。

日本学術振興会（JSPS）が初めて開催する形成拠点形成事業「MinIONに関する技術講習会」が2016年7月11日、東京大学柏キャンパスで始まった。東京大学大学院新領域創成科学研究科の鈴木穣教授がオーガナイザーを務めている。7月15日には東京大柏で公開シンポジウムを開催する。講習会は次いで、7月16日から18日には東京大学医科学研究所（東京・港）に場所を移して開催する。
