キウイフルーツの健康機能に関する初めての国際シンポジウムが、ニュージーランド（NZ）のTAURANGAのASBアリーナで2016年4月12日から14日に開かれ、16カ国から185人の研究者らが集まった、NZ政府が出資する国営研究拠点の一つRiddet Instituteが主催し、NZのZespri GroupのZESPRI International社が後援した。同社は、海外56カ国にキウイフルーツを販売する世界有数の企業グループで、海外で取引されるキウイフルーツの約3分の1を扱う。シンポジウムでは注目が集まっている腸内菌叢との関連や消化器疾患へのキウイフルーツの作用など、最新の研究成果が発表された。
