大日本住友製薬は2016年4月11日、京都大学と協働研究である「DSKプロジェクト」の第2期を実施すると発表した。「免疫と癌」、「ストローマ制御と癌」の2つのアプローチで、癌治療薬の標的を探索する。

産業技術総合研究所の大石勲氏らは、シンプルで強力なゲノム編集技術であるCRISPR/Cas9をニワトリの始原生殖細胞に適用して、オボムコイド遺伝子欠失個体を得ることに成功した。得られた結果は、ゲノム編集によるニワトリの品種改良が可能であることを示した。詳細は、Scientific Reports誌電子版に2016年4月6日に報告された。

米Gilead Sciences社と米Nimbus Therapeutics社は2016年4月4日、Gilead 社が、 Nimbus Apollo社と同社のAcetyl-CoA Carboxylase (ACC) 阻害薬プログラムを買収することで最終合意に達したと発表した。Nimbus Apollo社はNimbus Therapeutics社の100%子会社である。Nimbus Therapeutics社は、買収契約に則り、4億ドルの前払い一時金を受け取る。加えて開発関連のマイルストーン金として8億ドルを受けとる権利を保有する。

国立がん研究センター研究所と理化学研究所、東京大学医科学研究所、広島大学などの研究グループは、日本人300例の肝臓癌の全ゲノムシーケンスを実施し、ゲノム情報を全て解読したと発表した。国際がんゲノムコンソーシアム（ICGC）のプロジェクトの一環で、単独の癌種の全ゲノムシーケンスの解析数としては世界最大規模という。
