厚生労働省は2016年3月30日、第7回ゲノム情報を用いた医療等の実用化推進タスクフォース（TF）を開催し、消費者向け（DTC）遺伝子検査ビジネスについて議論した。合わせて、これまで検討したゲノム医療等の質の確保について、意見取りまとめ案を提示した。

協和発酵バイオのバイオプロセス開発センター（茨城県つくば市）は、抗肥満作用などの健康機能性が注目されている希少糖であるD-プシコースを、グルコースから高効率で生産する製法を開発した。札幌市で開かれた日本農芸化学会2016年度大会で2016年3月30日に発表した。D-プシコースはD-フルクトースの3位のエピマーで、砂糖の7割ほどの甘味を持ちながらほぼゼロカロリーとされている。インスリン分泌作用や動脈硬化の防止作用なども報告されている。
