日本通信販売協会（JADMA）が2015年3月24日の10時から17時40分まで都内で開催した「『機能性表示食品制度』前夜祭」には600人が参加した。13時から始まった第2部「機能性表示食品制度を深く知る」の冒頭では、安倍晋三内閣総理大臣のこの前夜祭へのメッセージと、在日米国大使館のメッセージが紹介された。

欧州医薬品庁（EMA）は、2015年3月26日に設立20周年を迎えるに当たり、設立以来の薬事行政の変貌や周囲の科学界・医学界の進展などを回顧した「EMA設立20周年記念ブック」（EMA 20th Anniversary Book）を発行した。EMAが3月18日に発表した。

今回は英国とドイツの製薬企業の決算概要をまとめた。英GlaxoSmithKline（GSK）社は2桁の減収減域と厳しい決算であった。ただし、塩野義製薬が共同で開発した抗エイズ薬は順調な市場導入となっている。

米Algae Biomass Organization（ABO）は2015年3月11日、2015年2月に実施した藻類産業界を対象としたアンケート調査の結果を発表、このセクターは引き続き成長していくという高い期待が幅広く示され、様々な藻類由来製品の生産が増大してゆくと予測されていることが分かった。このアンケート調査は、藻類や藻類由来製品を直接生産あるいは購入している企業や個人、さらには機器メーカー、研究機関、機器や資材のプロバイダー、政府機関、サービスプロバイダーなどを対象として行われ、230を超える回答を得た。

合成生物学分野のトップランナーの1人である米Massachusette Institute of Technology（MIT）のTimothy Luは、2015年1月のKeystone Symposia - Precision Genome Engineering and Synthetic Biologyにて、ゲノムを「DNAテープレコーダー」と形容した。ゲノム編集技術が成熟した今、ゲノム上に任意の情報を記録し、上書きすることは容易に可能である。また同会議にて、米University of Texas at AustinのAndrew Ellingtonは、「ゲノムとは、設計／改変するためのユニットである」と述べた。いずれも合成生物学者らしい考え方であり、一昔前までならば絵空事のようにも感じられただろうが、ゲノム編集技術の急速な進化と相まって、彼らの言葉は極めて現実味を帯びていた。
