Salk研など、TALENによるゲノム編集でミトコンドリア病を予防できる可能性  from 日経バイオテクONLINE  (2015-4-27 0:00)

米Salk Institute for Biological StudiesのPradeep Reddy氏らは、ミトコンドリア病が子孫に伝わることを予防するために、ミトコンドリアを標的とする制限エンドヌクレアーゼ、または、人工ヌクレアーゼTALEN(転写アクチベーター様エフェクターヌクレアーゼ)を利用して、生殖細胞に存在する変異mtDNAを減らすアプローチについて検証し、その有用性を明らかにした。詳細は、Cell誌2015年4月23日号に報告された。

英Manchester大学は2015年4月10日、大学内にあるManchester Institute of Biotechnology（MIB）の研究所長であるNigel Scrutton教授と英Imperial College Londonライフサイエンス学科のPatrik Jones博士率いる研究チームが、気体であるプロパンを生合成できる代謝経路の開発において大きなブレークスルーを達成したと発表した（関連記事）。この研究は次世代バイオ燃料を開発するプログラムの一環として行われ、バイオプロパンの商業開発に向けた新たな一歩になると期待されている。
