中国Sun Yat-sen University（中山大学）のJunjiu Huang氏とCanquan Zhou氏らが、ゲノム編集ツールのCRISPR/Cas9を用いてヒト受精卵の遺伝子を編集した成果を2015年4月18日に、ドイツSpringer Science+Business Media社が発行するオープンアクセス誌Protein & Cell誌（インパクトファクター2.851）で2015年4月18日に発表したことが話題になっている。英Nature Publishig Group社のNature誌は、4月22日に「中国の科学者がヒト胚を遺伝子修復、生殖細胞系の噂は真実だった−生命倫理の議論再燃」というNEWSを配信した。
