黒川清・日本医療政策機構代表理事は2014年12月8日、認知症国家戦略を策定するよう、政府の健康・医療戦略参与会合で提案した。地方創成、成長戦略、民間活力導入等の視点を入れて省庁横断的に認知症国家戦略を策定するとともに、認知症対策における官民の取り組みを加速させ、2016年に日本が議長国を務めるG8首脳会議に向け日本のリーダーシップを世界に示すため、認知症関係閣僚会議（仮称）と有識者会合を設けるよう求めた。

カナダBioAmber社は2014年12月2日、ベルギーOleon社向けにバイオコハク酸を独占的に5年間供給する契約を締結したと発表した。2014年から2018年の終わりまでの5年契約の下、三井物産とのジョイント・ベンチャーであるカナダBioAmber Sarnia社からOleon社向けにバイオコハク酸が供給される（関連記事）。Oleon社はバイオコハク酸を使って高機能能および生分解性を備えたバイオ物質から成る新規潤滑油を開発し生産する。

CRISPR/Cas9は、Cas9とガイドRNAと呼ばれる2つのコンポーネントによって構成される。Cas9とガイドRNAは複合体を形成し、標的DNAを認識して結合する。ガイドRNAが認識する配列は20塩基ほどであり、Cas9は数塩基のPAMと呼ばれる配列（主に使われているものはNGGの3塩基）を認識する。??このようなCRISPR/Cas9の基礎情報は、生命科学系の研究者にとって、もはや常識となりつつあるかもしれない。しかし一度常識になってしまうと、それを当たり前と感じてしまい、疑問を抱かなくなる危険性を孕んでいることに注意しなければならない。
