9月22日以降の日経BP・バイオINDEXは軟調に推移している。22日に397.84だったINDEXは25日からは5営業日連続で下落し、10月10日にはついに350を割り込んだ。その後も回復せず、10月20日は345.84を付けた。

理化学研究所は2014年10月28日までに、本誌の取材に対し、国際出願していたSTAP細胞作製法の特許について、複数国に対して国内手続きを進めたと明らかにした。Nature誌に掲載された2報のSTAP細胞の論文はいずれも撤回したが、「検証実験を進めており、STAP細胞の存在は現時点で完全には否定できないため」（理研広報担当者）。
