消費者庁は2014年10月17日、「栄養素等表示基準値及び栄養機能食品に係る食品表示基準（案）」について意見の募集を開始した。意見募集期間は11月15日まで。「栄養機能食品の対象拡大」は、2013年6月に閣議決定された規制改革実施計画で、2013年度に検討して2014年度に結論・措置することが決まっていた。これに対応して、消費者庁は「栄養機能食品の対象成分の追加および栄養素等表示基準値の改訂に関する検討事業」と題する調査事業を2014年夏から行い、検討を進めてきた。

富士産業の粉末清涼飲料「コタラエキス」と小林製薬の錠菓「サラシア100」の食品健康影響評価がまとまり、2014年10月21日に開催される食品安全委員会（第534回）で評価を終了する見通しになった。2品目とも、αグルコシダーゼ阻害活性のあるサラシア属植物成分を含み、食後血糖値対策の特定保健用食品（トクホ）として申請されている製品だ。食品安全委員会がこの審議を経て消費者庁に答申すると、消費者委員会の新開発食品調査部会における審議に進む。
