理化学研究所、キリン、東京工業大学、大阪大学、広島大学、日本大学、千葉大学は、ジャガイモに含まれる有毒なステロイドグリコアルカロイド（SGA）の生合成に関わる酵素遺伝子SSR2遺伝子を同定した。理研環境資源科学研究センター（CSRS）統合メタボロミクス研究グループの斉藤和季グループディレクター（本務は千葉大学大学院薬学研究院教授）と澤井学研究員、キリン基盤技術研究所の梅基直行主任研究員、東京工業大学大学院理工学研究科の大山清助教、大阪大学大学院工学研究科の村中俊哉教授と關光准教授、広島大学大学院理学研究科の山本卓教授、日本大学生物資源科学部の青木俊夫教授などの共同研究グループが、米The Plant Cell（インパクトファクター9.575）オンライン版で2014年9月12日（現地時間）に発表した。ゲノム編集法の1つであるTALEN法を利用した植物の研究成果を日本の研究グループが論文発表するのはこれが初めてとみられる。
