島津製作所と日本赤十字社医療センター、横浜市立大学は、2014年4月24日、質量分析装置を用いたがんの迅速病理診断システムの臨床研究を開始すると発表した。科学技術振興機構（JST）先端計測分析技術・機器開発プログラムにおいて、2012年度から2014年度を期間として実施している「迅速がん診断支援装置の実用化開発」の一環だ。

米Sarepta Therapeutics社は2014年4月21日、デュシェンヌ型筋ジストロフィー（DMD）患者を対象とした、エキソンスキップ核酸医薬「eteplirsen」の新薬承認申請(NDA)を、2014年末までに米食品医薬品局(FDA)に提出する計画であると発表した。eteplirsen はSarepta社のエキソンスキップ薬で、エキソン51スキップに適した遺伝子型を持つDMD患者の治療として開発されている。
