米Celgene社および米Acceleron Pharma社は2014年3月24日、2本の論文がウェブサイト上に掲載されたと発表した。そのうちの一本である Nature Medicine誌４月号に掲載された論文では、sotatercept（ACE-011）およびACE-536が、マウスを使った実験でエリスロポエチン（EPO）非依存性のメカニズムで、赤血球の形成を促進することを明らかにした。

厚生労働省医薬食品局審査管理課は2014年3月24日付で、22成分37品目を新医薬品として承謁し、各都道府県に事務連絡した。今回、世界に先駆けて国内承認された品目には、抗がん剤「ロンサーフ」（トリフルリジン/塩酸チビラシル、大鵬薬品工業）や抗インフルエンザウイルス薬「アビガン」（ファビピラビル、富山化学工業）があった。海外で既に発売となっている抗血小板薬「エフィエント」（塩酸プラスグレル、第一三共）も「経皮的冠動脈形成術を伴う虚血性心疾患」の適応で承認されるなど、注目される品目が多かった。

理化学研究所が主催する国際コンソーシアムFANTOMは、第5期のプロジェクトFANTOM5として、マウスとヒトのさまざまな細胞のゲノムのプロモーターとエンハンサーを網羅的に測定し、データベース化した。主要な成果は2014年3月27日にNature誌に2本の論文として掲載されるほか、Nature Biotechnology誌、Genome Research誌などに計18報が発表される。同コンソーシアムには20カ国、114機関から261人の研究者が参加した。大規模ヒト遺伝子解析研究結果との組み合わせによる新たな疾患関連ゲノム領域の発見や、細胞のダイレクトリプログラミングにも生かせる成果だと、コンソーシアムは期待している。
