新しい食品の健康機能表示制度が2015年4月までには導入される。表示制度の先進国といえる米国などに追随するという意味合いとは別に、このうち農林水産品（1次産品）において健康機能表示を実施するのは、日本が世界で初めてとなる。この表示制度を導入する責任官庁である消費者庁が制度化に向けた取り組みを進めている他、農林水産業を管轄する農林水産省も消費者庁と連携しながら、表示を具体化するための取り組みを強化している。
