たんぱく質間相互作用（PPI）を阻害する低分子化合物の探索研究を行うインタープロテイン（大阪市北区、細田雅人社長）は、2011年12月に続き、2013年4月にも武田薬品工業とPPIの制御に対する新たな研究テーマについての契約を締結した。これまで、高分子化合物同士であるPPIを分子量が小さな低分子化合物で阻害することは難しいと考えられていた。インタープロテインでは、構築したin silicoの手法を用いることで、PPI阻害薬を効率的に探索できることを実証した。製薬企業との提携も増え、事業が拡大基調にあるようだ。同社の相模原研究室において、小松弘嗣事業開発本部長（写真）に事業内容・研究開発の進捗などについて聞いた。

糖尿病分野における顕著な功績を上げた研究者に授与される第6回鈴木万平記念糖尿病国際賞（主催：鈴木万平糖尿病財団）には、Harvard Medical School
Dana Farber Cancer InstituteのBruce Spiegelman教授が受賞した。2014年1月17日に都内で、同教授の記者会見、表彰式、記念講演会が行われた。

2013年12月24日に上場したヒューマン・メタボローム・テクノロジーズは大学発バイオベンチャーとしては17社目となる。学園都市化を進める山形県鶴岡市が慶応義塾大学先端生命科学研究所を誘致。同所が発明したメタボローム解析技術の普及を目指し03年に設立された。創業者は同技術の礎を築いた曽我朋義教授らである。
