サイエンス系の書籍や雑誌の大手出版社であるドイツSpringer社は2014年1月9日、筑波大学植物代謝生理学研究室の白岩善博教授らを中心とする研究グループが放射性セシウム、ヨウ素およびストロンチウムを環境から効率的に取り除くことができる微細藻類および水生植物を同定したと発表した。福島地域の放射能汚染を低減させるのに役立つかもしれない。

転移を有する膵腺がんで治療歴がある患者に対し、異なる2種類のがんワクチンの接種、すなわちGVAX Pancreas(以下、GVAX)を接種後にCRS-207を接種すると、GVAXのみを接種した場合と比べて全生存期間(OS)が改善したことが、多施設共同、非盲検、フェーズIIのランダム化試験の最新の解析結果から示された。同試験は中間解析で有効性が示され、中止となった。1月16日から19日まで米サンフランシスコで開催されたGastrointestinal Cancer Symposium(ASCO-GI)で、米Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins UniversityのDung T. Le氏が発表した。
