特許分析ソフトウェアや技術力評価指標の開発・販売、情報提供などを事業化しているパテント・リザルト（東京・台東、白山隆社長）は、1993年から2013年10月末までに公開された特許公報を調査対象として特許分析ツール「Biz Cruncher」を用いて調査した特許総合力ランキングを各分野ごとに取りまとめ、トップ5の企業名などを相次ぎ発表している。「機能性飲料（栄養強化・改善）関連技術」を2013年12月25日、「魚介類用飼料関連技術」を12月27日、「犬猫用ペットフード関連技術」を2014年1月6日に発表した。

2013年12月30日は、日経平均株価が9日連続で上昇したことから東京株式市場の大納会の終値は1万6291.31円と、昨年に続き2年連続で最高値を更新した。2013年1月4日の大発会から日経平均株価は52.4％の上昇となり、新聞各社は41年ぶりの高い上昇率であったことを報道した。ちなみに、日経平均株価とは、東京証券取引所第1部に上場する約1700銘柄の株式のうちの225銘柄を対象にした指数である。また、新薬を研究開発する国内の主要製薬企業26社の株価に目を向けると、日経平均株価の上昇率の52.4％を超えた企業は10社、それ未満であった会社は16社となった。
