米Sangamo BioSciences社は2013年9月12日、同社が開発中の、ZFN修飾した自家T細胞を用いたHIV治療SB-728-Tに関するフェーズII試験SB-728-902コホート5で得られた新たなデータが、第53回国際抗菌薬化学療法学会（ICAAC）で報告されたと発表した。

米StemCells社は2013年9月12日、精製ヒト神経幹細胞製剤「HuCNS-SC」のドライ型加齢性黄斑変性症（AMD）を対象とするフェーズI/II試験で、初めて高用量投与を実施したと発表した。また、米国食品医薬品局（FDA）から米国内の試験実施施設を5ヵ所に増やす認可を得たことも明らかにした。

スイスUniversity of Geneva(UNIGE)のFaculty of Medicineの研究者らが率いるGEUVADISプロジェクトの研究チームは2013年9月15日、人間の間の差異の原因となる遺伝子のマップを発表した。研究成果はNature誌、Nature Biotechnology誌に掲載された。これは、ヒトゲノムを遺伝子の活性とRNAレベルで結びつけたこれまでで最大のデータセットである。

米Florida大学は2013年8月29日、園芸学科の研究チームが、緑藻類Chlorellaが窒素源（N）欠乏ストレス下で脂質の蓄積をどのように引き起こすかを解明したと発表した。Bala Rathinasabapathi教授率いる研究チームは、Chlorella UTEX29株を使い窒素源欠乏状態下でトリアシルグリセロール（TAG：triacylglycerol）の蓄積および脂肪体（lipid body）形成に影響を与える要因について研究を行った。
