東京大学医科学研究所の河岡義裕教授らは、世界保健機構(WHO)がH7N9ウイルスのヒトにおける感染者3人を中国で確認したと2013年4月に発表したH7N9鳥インフルエンザウイルス(H7N9ウイルス)について、特性を解明した成果を2013年7月11日、英Nature誌で発表した。今回の研究で、中国でヒトから分離されたH7N9ウイルスが、1)哺乳類で良く増殖できる能力を持つこと、2)フェレット間で限定的ながらも空気伝播すること、3)ヒトはH7N9ウイルスに対する免疫を持たないこと、4)動物実験ではこのウイルスが既存のノイラミニダーゼ阻害剤に対する感受性が低いことが分かった。
