アブラキサン点滴静注用100mg」（以下、アブラキサン）は、ヒト血清アルブミン懸濁型のパクリタキセル製剤であり、「乳がん」を効能・効果として2010年7月に承認され広く用いられている。今回、2013年2月に「非小細胞肺がん」「胃がん」に対しても承認された。

米エネルギー省（DOE）は2013年4月22日、オバマ政権の「all-of-the-above」（あらゆる可能性を試す）というエネルギー戦略の一環として、自動車、トラックおよび飛行機に動力を供給するジェット燃料や船舶ディーゼル燃料の代替品として、軍事仕様の再生可能バイオ燃料をテストするカリフォルニア州、アイオワ州およびワシントン州の4件の革新的なパイロット規模バイオリファイナリー・プロジェクトに総額で約1800万ドルを供与すると発表した。これらプロジェクトは、バイオ燃料のコストを下げ性能を改善する技術、また効率の良い非食用原料やプロセス技術の開発を継続して推進するというオバマ政権の広範囲な取組みの方針に基づいている。
