九州大学生体防御医学研究所の中山敬一主幹教授らは、細胞周期を調節するたんぱく質Fbxw7を抑制すると、マウス慢性骨髄性白血病（CML）モデルでがん幹細胞を根絶できることを示した。Cancer Cell誌オンライン版に2013年3月18日に発表した。

昨夜の世界フィギュアスケート選手権の女子フリーの演技に釘付けとなった読者も多いのではないでしょうか？韓国のキム・ヨナ選手の墨絵のようなコスチュームが、赤や青など華やかな選手のコスチュームの中で異彩を放っておりました。演技は完璧、スケートのスピードもまったく終了まで落ちず、心技体の充実ぶりが光っておりました。まさに圧勝です。とてもオリンピック以後、スケートから遠ざかっていた選手とは思えない。異次元の存在でした。ソチでは、演技の基礎点で対抗できるのは浅田選手しかおりません。真央選手にジャンプの神が再び降臨することを祈っております。

米DuPont Pioneer社と米Mendel Biotechnology社は2013年3月7日、トウモロコシの水利用効率（WUE：water use efficiency）を高め光合成を改善する新たな候補遺伝子を評価し商業化するため、ライセンス・共同開発契約を締結したと発表した。両社はこれらの候補遺伝子をPioneerブランドのトウモロコシを使って評価し、生産性向上形質かどうか見極めていく。これら候補遺伝子はMendel社の次世代植物生理学プラットフォームであるPlant Gene Regulatory Networks（PGRNs）によって同定されたもの。
