京都大学iPS細胞研究所の井上治久准教授と長崎大学薬学部の岩田修永教授の研究グループは、家族性・孤発性のアルツハイマー病（AD）患者由来の人工多能性幹細胞（iPS細胞）から大脳の神経系細胞を作製。細胞によっては、アミロイドβ（Aβ）オリゴマーが細胞内に蓄積していることを発見した。Cell StemCell誌に2013年2月22日に発表した。論文の筆頭著者は京都大学大学院医学研究科脳病態生理学講座臨床神経学・大学院生の近藤孝之氏。

米Massachusetts工科大学（MIT）は2013年2月17日、化学工学および生物学の研究者から成る研究チームが酵母のイソブタノール生産性を大幅に押し上げる方法を考案したと発表した。酵母は通常少量のイソブタノールしか産生しないが、研究チームは酵母を組換え、イソブタノール生合成がすべてミトコンドリア内で起こるように設計した。ミトコンドリアはエネルギーを生成し、また多くの生合成経路をつかさどる細胞内組織。このアプローチにより、酵母のイソブタノール生産性を約260％押し上げることに成功した。

Tweet デアゴスティーニから分冊百科として発売される ロボット「ロビ」 について、ロボットクリエイターの高橋智隆さんが語ってます。
「この『ロビ』は半分はおもちゃなんだけど、未来の人と一緒に暮らすロボット、未来を少し先取りにしたロボットでもある。ロボットと暮らす未来を先取りして体験してもらう。ロボットと一緒に暮らす時代が本当に実現するときにこのロボットが元祖になってもらいたい。我々の暮らしに変化をもたらすそんな存在になって欲しい」
