京都大学物質−細胞統合システム拠点（iCeMS）の北川進拠点長/教授、古川修平准教授、酒田陽子研究員（現在は神戸大学助教）らは、多孔性構造体の結晶サイズをメゾスコピック領域まで小さくすることで、分子を取り込んだ状態の構造の「記憶」と加熱による「消去」が可能な形状記憶ナノ細孔の合成に成功した。物質のサイズによって細孔機能が変化することを多孔性材料で示したのはこれが世界で初めて。2013年1月11日付けの米Science誌で発表する。この研究は科学技術振興機構（JST）戦略的創造研究推進事業ERATO型研究「北川統合細孔プロジェクト」（研究総括：北川教授）の一環で行われた。
