日本たばこ産業は2012年12月6日、エルビテグラビル（JTK-303）を含む配合錠を国内で申請したと発表した。適応は抗HIV薬である。エルビテグラビルは、HIVの遺伝物質がヒトDNAに挿入されるときに必要な酵素であるインテグラーゼを阻害する。

農業生物資源研究所は、野外の水田に植えたイネ（品種は日本晴と農林8号）の葉の遺伝子発現を、田植えから稲穂が付くまでの全過程にわたって網羅的に解析した。得られたデータは気象条件のデータと結合させ、気候によって変わるイネの遺伝子発現を予測するモデルを構築することに成功した。同研究所植物生産生理機能研究ユニットの井澤毅上級研究員、農業生物先端ゲノム研究センターゲノムリソースユニットの長村吉晃ユニット長らによる研究成果で、2012年12月７日にCell誌オンライン版に発表した。
