米Illumina社は2012年10月16日、「Infinium HumanCore BeadChip」ファミリーの新製品を発表した。同ファミリー製品は、複数の最先端の研究所と共同で開発されたものでカスタマイズが可能。バイオバンクやゲノムセンター、大学の共用実験施設が行う、大規模のゲノムタイピングや、スクリーニングをサポートするものだ。

東京大学大学院工学系研究科応用化学専攻の橋本和仁教授は、微生物燃料電池の電極に酸化鉄ナノコロイドを用いることにより、電流の発生能を200倍に高める成果を得ていることを、科学技術振興機構（JST）が2012年10月18日に都内で開催したJST理事長定例記者説明会で話した。橋本教授はJSTのERATO橋本「光エネルギー変換システム」プロジェクト（06年から2012年）で、微生物燃料電池の実用化研究に取り組んでいる。定例説明会ではまず、JSTの中村道治理事長が「ナノテクノロジー・材料分野を中心とした新たな研究開発システム構築に向けて」と題した説明を行い、続いて橋本教授が「グリーンイノベーションに向けたナノテク・材料分野研究者の役割」と題した発表を行った。
