RNAベースの治療薬を開発している米Sarepta Therapeutics社（2012年7月に社名をAVI BioPharma社から変更）は、12年9月4日、米国防総省が推進するJPM-TMT（The Joint Project Manager Transformational Medical Technologies）のプログラムの一環として、約390万ドルを得て、マールブルグ出血熱の原因となるマールブルグウイルス感染症に対する治療薬AVI-7288の筋注投与の可能性を探ることになったと発表した。

理研OSC参加の国際プロジェクトENCODEがヒトゲノム機能の80％を解明、Nature誌で発表

理化学研究所が参加する国際プロジェクトENCODEは、DNAエレメントデータと呼ばれる遺伝子由来の膨大なデータを収集して解析し、ヒトゲノムの80％の領域に機能があることを明らかにした。この研究成果は、Nature誌2012年9月6日号に掲載される。その中で、理研オミックス基盤研究領域（OSC；林崎良英領域長）は、独自の遺伝子解析技術であるCAGE法を用いて遺伝子転写開始点の解析に貢献した。理研OSCゲノム機能研究チームのPiero Carninciチームリーダーらによる研究成果だ。
