国立がん研究センター中央病院の田村研治医長と、理化学研究所分子イメージング科学研究センターの渡辺恭良センター長らは、放射性同位体64Cuで抗がん抗体「ハーセプチン」（トラスツズマブ）を標識し、患者体内における動態を観察することに成功した。被ばく量は通常のPET検査とほぼ同等。HER2陽性乳がんの原発巣だけでなく、骨、脳などへの転移をPET検査で確認できた。2012年6月5日に米国臨床腫瘍学会（ASCO）で発表した。

米Massachusetts Institute of Technology（MIT）化学部門の研究チームは2012年6月4日、「DNA折り紙」と呼ばれる手法を用いて、RNAi送達用粒子としてDNAやRNAで出来た極小粒子を作製したと発表した。この新たな粒子は脂質などで出来た従来の粒子に比べ、副作用リスクが低く、標的性能が優れているため様々な腫瘍を標的にできるようになるという。

新規診断多発性骨髄腫患者に対して、レナリドミド、低用量デキサメタゾンに加えてカルフィルゾミブ(carfilsomib)を投与すると、ほとんどの患者が完全寛解またはほぼ完全寛解を達成できることが明らかになった。米Chicago大学医学部のAndrzej Jakubowiak氏らは、フェーズI/II試験の結果をASCO 2012で6月3日に報告、Blood誌電子版に2012年6月4日に論文発表した。

国内製薬企業の2011年度の通期決算は、為替レートが依然と円高で推移し、グローバルで展開する企業にとっては厳しい環境にあった。当期の為替の影響は、武田薬品工業で427億円、大塚HDで480億円、アステラス製薬が241億円、第一三共は390億円、エーザイが159億円と前年と同様に大きかった。さらに、東日本大震災によって前期末の仮需要の反動を受けた。これらに個別事情として各社の主力製品の特許期間満了による売り上げの減少が加わる。
