日本分析化学会は、毎年春に開催している分析化学討論会を、今年は2012年5月19日、20日に鹿児島大学工学部郡元キャンパスで開催する。2012年5月9日の記者会見で、講演要旨などを公開した。「産業のチカラ・イノベーションの駆動力となる分析化学」「分析化学における現代の溶液反応化学」「環境影響評価と分析化学」「ナノ分析化学の新展開」の4つの討論主題を決め、51件の主題講演を行うほか、一般講演275件、テクノレビュー講演（企業による発表）7件、若手ポスター発表153件の発表を予定している。

米Neuralstem社は2012年5月8日、脊髄幹細胞（HSSC）による筋萎縮性側索硬化症（ALS）治療の安全性を評価しているフェーズI試験で、以前治療を行ったコホートの患者3人が試験に復帰し、再び治療を受けることについて、米食品医薬品局（FDA）が承認したと発表した。これらの患者は、前回の治療で腰部に幹細胞移植を受けているが、2回目の治療では頸部に移植を受ける計画だ（関連記事）。

昨日の博多は30度を超える蒸し暑さでした。 　エピジェネティックスの我が国のパイオニアの一人である九州大学の佐々木教授の取材で、皆さんに重要な情報を伝え損ねていたことに気がつきました。 　近く欧米でエピジェネティックスの変化（DNAメチル化）を目安にした診断薬の実用化が迫っていることです。ドイツEpigenomics社が2011年12月に欧州医薬庁に大腸がんの診断薬「Epi proColon」の製造認可申請をいたしました。また、米国食品医薬品局に2012年後半に申請する計画です。この4月から、FDAの要請に基づき、大腸内視鏡検査との比較臨床試験を開始したところです。
