米エネルギー省（DOE）は2012年4月13日、総額で1億2500万ドルとなる米国-インド・クリーンエネルギー共同研究開発センター（JCERDC：Joint Clean Energy Research and Development Center）を構築する3つのコンソーシアムを選択したと発表した。米国側ではNational Renewable Energy Laboratory（NREL）、Florida大学およびLawrence Berkeley National Laboratory（LBNL）の3機関が率いるこれらコンソーシアムは、米国とインド両国の国立研究所、大学および産業界からエキスパートを集めて実施される。コンソーシアムに参加する研究者たちは、ソーラーエネルギー技術、先進バイオ燃料およびビルのエネルギー効率の分野における専門知識と研究資源を提供し、エネルギー消費の低減、外国産原油への依存の削減、再生可能エネルギー源の開発を加速するクリーンエネルギー技術の潜在的可能性を引き出してゆく。

米Monsanto社は2012年4月20日、この春米国とカナダのキュウリ栽培農家向けに、べと病（Downy Mildew）による被害に対して保護効果のある新しいハイブリッド・オプションを提供すると発表した。Monsanto社「Seminis」ブランドのスライサー・キュウリ2種類のハイブリッド種子を発売予定で、栽培農家は収穫量を増大させ、現在その病気をコントロールするために使用している殺菌剤スプレーの使用回数とコストの両方を削減できるようになる。

全日本空輸CSR推進部の大竹英雄主席部員は2012年4月25日、本誌の取材に応じ、4月17日に実施したバイオ燃料による世界初の太平洋横断フライトの詳細について説明した。このフライトは、米Boeing社と全日空がボーイング787型機を用いて実施したもの。全日空が購入する7台目の787型機を、米ワシントン州エヴェレットにあるBoeing社の配送センターから羽田空港に運搬するデリバリーフライトで、「秘かにラッキーセブンプロジェクトと呼んでいた」と大竹主席部員は明かした。
