国立医薬品食品衛生研究所生物薬品部の川崎ナナ部長は、群馬県と農業生物資源研究所(生物研)が2012年2月15日に前橋市で開催した公開シンポジウム「カイコ産業の未来?遺伝子組換えカイによる医薬品開発を目指して?」で、「遺伝子組み換えカイコによるバイオ医薬品開発の課題」と題した基調講演を行った。カイコを用いたバイオ医薬品の生産の研究を進めている生物研の研究者らは、バイオ医薬品の品質管理の専門家である川崎部長に2011年夏頃に面会して意見交換を行い、続いて今回の講演を依頼した。
