○『モグラ博士のモグラの話』（岩波ジュニア新書）という本を読みました。モグラに多くの種類がいることやユニークな生態、世界各地での生け捕りの苦労話も面白かったのですが、著者は、一度は実家のクリーニング屋で働くことを選んだが、研究への思いを断ちがたく、再び研究の道に入ったとありました。この本を書いた研究者に会ってみたいと思いました。国立科学博物館の一般公開で来場者たちの質問に熱く回答 ...

日本の研究チームが発見した、約2億年前のウナギによく似ている｢生きた化石｣に関する報告が、17日の学術専門誌「英国王立協会紀要（Proceedings of the Royal Society B）」に発表された。
この小型で茶色の新種ウナギは2010年3月、千葉県立中央博物館の宮正樹（Masaki Miya）上席研究員率いるチームが、西太平洋の島国パラオ共和国にある裾礁（きょしょう）というタイプのサンゴ礁の、水深約35メートルの位置にある洞窟で発見した。
