外国の言葉を日本語にするのは難しい。言葉は状況によて意味を変えるし、おまけに日本語も色々な使われ方をするからである。同じ言葉であっても文脈によって訳しわけなければならない。
『 悩ましい翻訳語 』 はドーキンスの『 利己的な遺伝子 』ほかの科学書を訳出して来た翻訳者による本だ。「ギニア豚」と誤訳されてしまうモルモットや、樫の木とされることが多いオークなどありがちな誤訳例から、公害のような「政治的誤訳」の類まで、様々な翻訳語に関する四九編の蘊蓄エッセイである。

Tweet ▼書店のマンガ売り場を歩く。久々にマンガ売り場を見てみて、マンガでは古本屋やネット販売が栄える理由がビジネス書以上にあるなあと思った。新刊書店は既刊の在庫に追いついていない。書棚の並べ方も古本屋のほうが綺麗だ。
▼探していたのはこちら。 このブログ を読んで猛烈に読みたくなった。残念ながら近所の本屋にはなかった。池袋や新宿に出ないとダメか。１巻は既に品切れらしいので出てもダメかもしれないが。
