KUKA To Sponsor Best Service Robotics ICRA Paper Award

The KUKA Roboter GmbH, a leading robotics company based in Germany, has agreed to sponsor a new paper award in the area of Service Robotics at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, beginning in 2008. The purpose of the award is to promote between robotics science research and industry R&D advancement in the area of service robotics applications (both professional and domestic). The sponsorship by KUKA will be initially for 5 years (2008-2012).

Nominations for the 6th IEEE Robotics & Automation Technical Field Award are due at the IEEE by January 31, 2008. The award is presented for contributions in the field of robotics and automation. It can be presented to an individual or team of up to three in number. It includes but is not limited to: Manufacturing automation, Robotics and Automation in Unstructured Environments, Sensor Design, Integration and Fusion, Robot Design, Modeling, Planning and Control, Methodologies for Robotics and Automation. The IEEE Robotics & Automation Award was established in 2002. As an IEEE Institute Level Award, it is administered by the Technical Field Awards Council of the IEEE Awards Board. 2008 RAS New Initiative Grants: Tentative CFP

As a result of a new IEEE policy, the Robotics and Automation Society anticipates being able to use some of its 2008 budget to fund a modest number of initiatives that would benefit society members in general. We expect approximately $90,000 to be available to support initiatives. We hope to be able to fund several initiatives in the range of $5000 to $24,900. While we cannot make a firm call for proposals at this time because IEEE will not approve our 2008 budget until mid-November, we are making a tentative preliminary call now because the time for proposal preparation after IEEE approves the 2008 budget will be too short. We do expect our budget to be approved. When it is, a final call for proposals will be issued to confirm what is contained in the Tentative Call for Proposals . The 2008 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems will be held September 22-26, 2008 in Nice, France. The conference theme is "Robots for the planet", reflecting the growing development of robots use in all aspects of human life and their increasing diversity but also to emphasize the necessity of managing the co-existence of robots and humans within a sustainable development scheme. General Co-Chairs are Raj Chatila (LAAS) and Jean-Pierre Merlet (INRIA). Program Chair is Christian Laugier (INRIA. Deadline for contributed papers: 11:59 PM, France Time, February 22, 2008 All papers must be submitted electronically in PDF format through the PaperPlaza system and must contain no information to identify authors and must contain a maximum of 6 pages, including Figures although 2 additional pages are allowed at a charge of 200 Euros per page.

The fourth annual IEEE Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (IEEE CASE 2008), sponsored by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, will be held from August 23 to 26, 2008 in Washington DC, U.S.A. The conference goal is the broad coverage and dissemination of foundational research on automation among researchers, academicians, and industry practitioners. The focus is on scientific methods for automated machines and systems operating in structured environments over long periods, and also on the explicit structuring of environments.The deadline for submissions is 1 February, 2008.

[開催報告] 第98回日本生化学会大会 ランチョンワークショップ

前センター事務局長の加藤裕介です。
11月3日〜5日に国立京都国際会館で開催された第98回日本生化学会大会にて、生化学若い研究者の会ランチョンワークショップを企画させていただきました。
かつて本会の中心で活動され、その後、様々な分野・お立場で活躍されている養王田正文先生、倉元綾子先生、三品裕司先生、榎木英介先生、谷中冴子先生にご講演いただきました。
生命科学分野で若手PIとして活躍されている谷中先生からは、本会での繋がりが、研究活動に直接的にも間接的にも活かされたお話を伺いました。
医学/ジャーナリズム分野で活躍されている榎木先生からは、本会で学んだ組織運営のノウハウや本会での執筆活動の経験が、その後のNPO法人の設立や現在の文筆業に繋がっているお話を伺いました。
生命科学分野で海外PIとして活躍されている三品先生からは、日本と海外の考え方の違いをご講演いただき、本会でのネットワークが日本中・世界中で維持されているというお話を伺いました。
家政学分野で活躍されている倉元先生からは、研究者全体に関わるジェンダーギャップに関するご講演をいただき、本会での経験や記録の編纂活動が思わぬところ ...

[開催報告]東北支部&生物物理東北支部合同セミナー

2025年9月19日に東北大学理学研究科サイエンスホールにて生化若手東北支部と生物物理東北支部で合同セミナーを開催しました。
午後に東京大学の坪山幸太郎先生をお呼びし、AIと大規模データによる、人工タンパク質の合理設計への挑戦をテーマにご講演いただきました。現地・オンライン含め多くの方に参加いただき、質疑応答やその後の現地懇親会でも活発な議論が行われました。
また、夜には打ち上げを開催し、非常に盛り上がった会となりました。
登壇いただいた坪山先生、ご参加いただいた皆様、誠にありがとうございました。
東北支部では今後もセミナーや交流会を開催しますので、積極的な参加をお待ちしております。

[開催報告]中四国支部主催 🍁秋の研究交流会🍁

2025年10月11日(土)に広島県西条市にて、中四国支部主催の秋の研究交流会を開催しました！
当日は、午前に研究交流会を開催した後、午後に酒まつりへの参加という二部構成でイベントを実施しました。
研究交流会では、まず1分程度のフラッシュトークを行った後、2つのグループに分かれて各自の研究内容を紹介し合い、活発な議論を交わしました。異なる分野の研究に触れることができ、新たな視点を得る大変有意義な時間となりました。
続いての酒まつりでは、各々西条駅周辺の酒蔵を巡り醸造の現場を見学し、気になる産地の清酒を楽しみながら交流を深めました。
本セミナーには西日本地域の方を中心に8名の方にご参加いただきました。
ご参加いただいた皆様に改めて感謝申し上げます。
生化学若い研究者の会 中四国支部では、今後も大学生や大学院生、若手研究者にとって有意義なイベントを企画・開催していく予定です。皆様の積極的なご参加をお待ちしております。
